Shark Tank Critic Visits The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale

Several lucky inventors may have their ideas marketed

January 27, 2010 - Ft. Lauderdale -- On January 26, Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale Advertising instructor Marcia Fernandes hosted the college's version of ABC's Shark Tank with Kevin Harrington, currently a critic on ABC's "Shark Tank", and CEO of TV Goods participating on the panel, along with Scott Swank and Laurie Braden of Global TV Concepts. Together they critiqued the inventor's products, giving them valuable insights into the new product industry and what would be necessary to succeed with their products.
 
Eighteen inventors pitched their product ideas in hopes of making it to the next round of consideration for production by Global TV Concepts and a possible deal of producing their creation for sale in the marketplace. Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale alumni, students, and staff were among those who cajoled and tried to persuade the panel that their invention was the one they should choose for possible manufacturing and marketing.

Accustomed to doing things in a big way, Laurie Braden, president of Global TV Concepts and creator of Big Top Cupcake brand which is known for its larger-than-life take on the average dessert, has raised the bar with its 'largest cupcake ever made' title, beating the current record of 1,224 pounds. Braden's idea: to create this record-breaking cupcake - call attention to - and raise money for - breast cancer research, screening and treatment by selling pieces of the "World's Largest Cupcake". This mega confection was made of delicious chocolate cake topped with pink icing with sprinkle toppings, each measuring five inches in length.

"This was a Giant Effort, Enormous Job and a Colossal amount of work. but with the Big Top World's Largest Cupcake Team... it was a piece of cake. In all seriousness - Breast Cancer is a disease that we need to eradicate and we can only do that through awareness, research and funding. We thought that with a Guinness World Attempt we could bring a new awareness to Think Pink Rocks, a breast cancer awareness charity. I needed to attempt this (without knowing that 97% of attempts fail) for my friends and my young daughters so that this will not be a topic of conversation when they get older", said Laurie Braden, president of Global TV Concepts and creator of Big Top Cupcake brand.

The world's largest cupcake was showcased at the 2009 Think Pink Rocks charity concert on Saturday, October 3rd in Boca Raton, Florida. It featured artists such as Akon, Shontelle and DJ Webstar to raise awareness for breast cancer. Attendees were also able to consume a piece of history of the world-record holding colossal treat served in honor of donations to breast cancer charities.
